Usage and service
To start a mechanical watch, turn the crown slowly and evenly in the basic setting in the direction of the twelve upwards (crowns of diving watches must first be unscrewed in the direction of the six downwards). The spring is fully wound after approx. 40 turns. With hand-wound watches, you will feel resistance. Avoid overwinding at all costs. In the case of mechanical watches with automatic winding, i.e. a rotor as the oscillating weight, the watch will continue to run constantly after the first winding if you wear it regularly. The maximum power reserve after full winding is noted directly on the product in our online shop.
Our watches with automatic winding can also be wound by hand. They have a slipping clutch that prevents the spring from being overloaded. The spring is fully wound after approx. 40 turns. If you wind your automatic watch by hand, turn the crown slowly and evenly upwards in the direction of the twelve in the basic setting. Ideally, automatic watches are wound via the oscillating weight (rotor), by wearing them on the arm or on a watch winder. However, occasional winding by hand is not a problem.
Pull the crown out to position 1 (crowns of diver's watches must first be unscrewed in the direction of the six downwards). You can now move the date display with the crown.
CAUTION: Do not adjust the date between 8 pm and 2 am, as the movement automatically advances the date during this time and the movement may be damaged.
If you have set the date but it is already turning at midday, the watch is not in the correct 12-hour cycle. You must then set the time 12 hours forward by pulling the crown out to position 2 and then correct the date.
All gear deviations are noted directly with the product in our online shop. We regulate our mechanical watches in Pforzheim with the help of a professional timing scale after they have been fitted in the case. However, the rate of a watch is sensitive and depends on many influences such as wearing habits or arm position. A slight knock can also be enough to change the rate. It is important to measure the rate deviation under full winding after approx. 40 revolutions. In our experience, measuring with apps does not show correct values. Specialised time scales or real-time measurement compared to a radio-controlled watch provide the most reliable results.
This depends on the model and is noted directly with the product in our online shop. Further information on what the individual details mean can be found here: https://circulawatches.com/atm-uhr-wasserdichtigkeit/
IMPORTANT: Please check the screw-down crown before every contact with water. Even if you go into the water several times, e.g. in a swimming pool, check the crown every time you go swimming. Damage caused by moisture inside the watch is excluded from the guarantee, as the water resistance of the case can only be guaranteed at the time of testing, before despatch.
There is no fixed revision interval, as how often a revision is due depends very much on personal wearing behaviour and, of course, on the movement itself. As a rule of thumb, however, you can say that a mechanical watch should be serviced approximately every 3 to 7 years. During the service, the movement is cleaned, all seals are replaced and all bearing points in the movement are re-oiled. We will be happy to carry out this service for you.
